The Body Shop Boost Sugar Body Polish 250ml RRP £26 sample review

It’s coming into the colder months now and with the central heating (reluctantly) making an appearance, hibernating indoors and with the last remnants of summer tans, our skin can become dull, lacklustre and flaky. Whilst it’s understandable to hide under our layers of teddy fleece joggers, there is of course party season to be thinking about. Even if there isn’t a party season (at my age I’m the taxi driver for my teens), then there is no other way that gives us instant indulgence than soft, silky smooth skin. Hence my love of body exfoliators.

The Body Shop Boost Sugar Body Polish is a multi use product that not only gets rid of flaky skin but also gives skin a whammy of ingredients that leaves the skin feeling soft and with a light dewy radiance. It’s citrusy oils give our senses of uplifting and mood boosting ride, so that you are left feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed.

The fragrance is made up of Bergamot and Mandarin essential oils, that are both uplifting, reviving and rejuvenating. Other ingredients include:-
  • Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Sunflower) Seed Oil - contains antioxidants, a number of vitamins including vitamin E, so protects the skin from environmental stressors.
  • Butyrospermum Parkii Butter (Shea) Butter - anti-inflammatory and an emollient that helps keep the skin nourished whilst preventing moisture loss.
  • Ricinus Communis Seed Oil - aka Castor Oil, rich in ricinoleic acid that helps moisturise, it’s also anti-inflammatory and as it is absorbed into the skin can help with joint pain and sore muscles.
  • Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive) Fruit Oil - high in oleic acid, helps with cell turnover and so aids in getting rid of dry, flaky skin.
  • Juglans Regia Shell Powder (Walnut) Shell Powder - often used in exfoliators, walnut shell is gritty enough to get rid of dead skin cells, but fine enough so that it in non abrasive. It gives skin a radiance and softness, and removes excess oil.
  • Sucrose - Sugar also gives a natural exfoliation and as it dissolves gives a more natural, gentle approach to exfoliation.

The buttery, soft consistency is ideal for use all over the body or even just to use on the hands and feet. Our hands are constantly exposed to environmental aggressors such as hard water, dirt, pollution etc and age quicker than other parts of our body.

Just a small amount gives an even spread of exfoliator, which is a pleasure to massage in. It feels luxurious, not at all scratchy but that it’s actually doing something (my pet hate is testing exfoliators that hardly have any active particles in them).

I only did one hand so you can really see the difference. When applying on the body I like to apply standing up in the bath (already filled with my chosen bubbles/oil). Then concentrate on massaging into the knees, elbows etc and finally lying in the bath to soak off. The oils really get into the skin so there is no need to moisturise after. If you are particularly flaky however, then I would advise using standing up in the shower (you don’t want to be sitting in a bath of skin cells), then rinsing off.

As with all The Body Shop products the packaging contains recyclable glass and is not tested on animals. You can check out the rest of the range by visiting The Body Shop stores nationwide or by clicking the link HERE
