Philip Kingsley Megawatt Shine Moisture Balancing Collection £38

There are approximately 10 weeks until Christmas, and this means that the big brands start offering their ‘limited Christmas gifts’ with reduced costs off the normal price. Now is the time to stock up on your favourite brands not just as gifts but for yourself.

Philip Kingsley is one of my favourite brands - having tested hundreds of hair products spanning 28 years of beauty editorial. It’s not just the products themselves and the ingredients, but the knowledge of trichology behind the brand. In fact I’ve just dug up out of the archives one of my favourite interviews from many years ago!

So you can see I have a great fondness for this brand, which is why (when I can afford to, I’m a single parent), I purchase to use for myself.

The Megawatt Shine Collection retails at £38 however, usually costs £56.50. It contains

  • Full Size Moisture Balancing Combination Shampoo 170ml
  • Full size Moisture Balancing Combination Conditioner 150ml
  • Elasticizer Deep-Conditioning Treatment 40ml
  • Finishing Touch Polishing Serum 20ml

As you may expect from the products, it’s primarily aimed for anyone who has ‘combination’ hair, more specifically oily roots and dry ends - a huge problem many of us are plagued with, due to environmental and heat aggressors.

The products do exactly what is needed to do and that’s give balance, shine to the areas that need hydration, whilst not weighing down oilier roots. In essence it solves a multitude of problems without having to resort to lots of products.

The key ingredient in the Shampoo and Conditioner is the ‘Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein’. This is Wheat Protein formulated so that it can bypass the hair cuticle and enter into the hair shaft where it can start to get to work. It leaves hair soft, manageable, reduces static electricity, smoothes the hair, gives it shine yet keeps the hair light and with more volume.

You only need a small amount of both to give a deep cleansing and injection of hydration to repair hair that is weak, dry on the ends and in need of nourishment. As with all conditioners apply to the mid-end of lengths only.

Again in previous blogs and features I’ve written in-depth stand alone reviews on the iconic Elasticizer, a deep treatment that is used before shampooing It contains:-
  • Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil - promotes hair growth, reduces dandruff, is antibacterial and anti fungal. Helps soothe itchy scalps and those who suffer with eczema.
  • Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil - really nourishes hair enabling maximum hydration. Ideal for brittle, dry ends prone to breaking.
The Finishing Touch Serum contains:-
  • Panthenol - this helps prevent breakages often caused by heat styling. It’s ideal for frizzy hair or wavy hair prone to frizz, and gives sleekness and gloss without weighing hair down.
  • Retinyl Palmitate - this boosts cell turnover and collagen production so really helps to promote healthy hair growth.
The brand also has a sustainable and ethical conscience, as the products are 100% recyclable, cruelty-free, CO2 negative and use planet-friendly packaging!  I don’t expect these gifts to last long on the Philip Kingsley website, as they’ve taken their best sellers and put into limited edition gifts.
