Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) in skincare is one of the dominant vitamins that can protect our cells from all these aggressors mentioned above. It not only protects but it can help minimise sun damage, and has a brightening effect on the skin, giving it radiance and a natural glow. It also works very well with other vitamins to help them play their role in skincare, especially Vitamin E. It also helps reduce wrinkles by promoting healthy collagen production and reduces pigmentation.
The Body Shop has a whole range dedicated to Vitamin C, some of which I have written about in previous blogs.
The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Revealing Tonic 150ml RRP £22
- Lactic Acid - natural organic acids, AHA are used in skincare for their exfoliation effects and helping get rid of dead skin cells, and promote healthier cell growth.
- Myrciaria Dubia - aka Camu Camu, this fruit is a potent form of Vitamin C and helps give skin brightened, as well as reducing pigmentation.
- Aloe Vera Juice - toning, as well as skin soothing and helps decrease redness and inflammation.
Apply with cotton wool and sweep over your face (avoiding the eye area) after cleansing and before moisturising.
Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser 50ml RRP £22
This light, gel consistency moisturiser packs a powerful punch of antioxidants. It sinks easily into the skin leaving it freshly moisturised, without any tackiness. Skin is left feeling incredibly supple. Ingredients are similar to the toner but also have:-
- Hyaluronic Acid - helps retain moisture in the skin, so skin is left feeling nourished and hydrated, as well as looking visibly plumper.
- Sesamum Indicum Seed Oil - Sesame Seed Oil, rich in Vitamins B and E, helps reduce inflammation, and soothes skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Vitamin E Glow Revealing Serum 30ml RRP £30
The Glow Revealing Serum has a whopping 10% of Vitamin C, giving skin the ultimate protection against environmental aggressors. This skin boosting serum not only protects the skin but helps even out uneven skin tone, smoothing and redefining. It also contains ‘Bakuchiol’, a wonder ingredient in skincare (and that became very popular in the last few years - it’s been proven to be as effective if not more than retinol), due to its skin smoothing properties, the ability to even out skin tone as well as being calming, so ideal for sensitive skin types.
It has glowing (pardon the pun) reviews on the website, due to the results that give ‘on average a 30% increase in radiance after 8 weeks’! You only need a couple of drops applied in the morning under your moisturiser so the bottle will last a good month or so.
Vitamin C Eye Glow Serum 10ml RRP £18
This light refreshing Eye Glow Serum is ideal for anyone who has dark circles, is showing lack of sleep and has been under the weather with sinus issues (sinus often show up as dark circles under the eyes). It’s a light consistency that sinks in immediately and doesn’t leave the eye area feeling greasy. It’s very gentle and can be used by contact lens wearers. It contains similar ingredients to the Tonic however, also has Caffeine which helps firm up the under eye area, thus preventing the appearance of fine lines.
The bottle may be small but you only need one drop under each eye, lightly tapped in with your ring finger. It also contains Sunflower Seed Oil, which hydrates by preventing moisture loss.
